Colorir as ferias June 2013

During month of june we had just two weeks of activities with kids. And they were very important for success of summer activities. Kids had met volunteers, we worked on dynamics of group and introduce them with everything planned.First activity was “Jogo Alimentacao Saudável”. Facilitators were JCV volunteers from health promotion project “Alimentacao Saudável” which is promoting healthy nutrition and healthy habits of living. Kids were involved in the game , through wich they learn a lot about nutrition, welfare of proper diet and food pyramid.

On dynamics of group we worked on workshops of balloon modeling, merengue dancing ,football tournament and during day of traditional games. Dynamics of group wasn't our only task. It was a little break after school for kids,a way to met each others for us to met them and to put very strict rules of respecting each other.

Kids, in visit of “ Museu dos Biscanhos” (and especially EVS volunteers ) , had opportunity to learn about history of Minho region , see how people in Braga lived in past and be delighted with beauty which walls of “museum of biscanhos” are hiding.

Seems like the kids had the most fun in visit of bombeiros de Braga. Firefighters was very hospitable. After introducing their call and converstion about tasks on their job, kids were sitting in firefighters truck, starting on sirene, took a lot of pictures and made even more questions. Braga should be calm, after seeing all of those smiles we had concluded that bomberios have worthy replacement.

50 days of summer

Now, when rains had started, we are recollecting memories about summer. If rainy days makes you happy, feel free to come to Braga.

In next few posts , Volunteers 4 humanity will write what made their summer unforgettable. To understand everything it is desirable at least to see thing clearly. So , let´s start from beginning.

Let me present Natalia Martins, Tania Gomes and Vanessa Matos. The real super heroines of modern time and coordinator, technician and dinamizator in the Geraçao Tecla project.

When you hear Portuguese summer, you can imagine a great beach, a greater sun and scenes from postcards or tv commercials.

Mentioned girls, had worked during all year , not to enjoy in charms of summer holidays, to provide summer activities for kids in the Geração Tecla project. Volunteers had learnt from them that if you want to motivate someone you need to be motivated. If you expect from someone to put more energy in work , you need to glow energy.

That makes them super heroines.

Geração Tecla is one nacional project dedicated for kids from ethnic groups. Conceived in manner of showing right values, helping in studying and social inclusion. JCV gave initial capsule in 2007, with project “colorir o sabado” . Effort had been recognized, and project had grow up to national level with support of lot of partners and supervision of council of ministers. Right now , Geração Tecla project lives third reemission and is untitled like Geracao Tecla 5g.

The project Geração Tecla came under the Programa Escolhas, in order to work in a more effective social inclusion of children and young people most vulnerable residents in the neighborhood of Santa Tecla Social, promoting inclusive education, the promotion of community and citizenship children and youth and vocational training and employability of youth and young adults of Roma.

During fifty days of summer activities, kids had opportunities to learn a lot about history, art, professional calls, healthy life, team work, equality and etc. And everything was planed and settled in very relaxing and safe environment for kids in terms of advantages of non formal education. Stay tuned and you will find out more about our activities.

P. S. First day after ending summer activities , those girls are started with making plans for “colorir o sabado” and styding support for kids, another two parts of Geração Tecla 5g.

Reason more to stay tuned.

FARE Action Weeks 2013

Please give a short description of the planned activity
  1. Footballs match (stadium or local school) with Roma team and team from other nongovernmental organization. Teams will have t-shirts with our logo type “Braga futebol  contra discriminação (Braga football against discrimination)” and our banner with the same message will be put on the wall or tribunes during the match. The banner will be accompanied with posters of FARE. Captain of each team will have marker on their arms with “Football UNITES” inscription, the same markers will wear referee of the game.  During the presentation of the teams cheerleaders will keep the banner, which later will be put on the wall or tribune. Before the start captains will read antiracist appeal which was read by the captains during EURO 2012.
  2. Cheerleaders – Roma girls will prepare fan choreography with antidiscrimination slogans which they will dance during the interval.
  3. Art workshop – other children will have art workshop during which will talk about racism, discrimination and tolerance and their links with the football. After it they will prepare thematic paintings connected with football and tolerance. Their works, along with FARE and Never Again Association materials,  will be collected and collocated in our organization side and also  in art gallery on the entrance of the school/stadium
  4. Videos – during the workshops and trainings we will make small videos with children talking about football and discrimination, what, according to them, is important in football, during the game, how people (players, fan, referees) should act. In the introduction we, as a Red cross Youth will explain why we wanted to organize FARE Action Week
Describe the aims and target group(s) of your activity
Our target group are children 6-15 years old from Roma community and kids from Red Cross Youth which participate in Geração Tecla program and participants from different ngo or school. Roma community is the most discriminated group in Portugal and for that reason we choose them as our target group. Geração Tecla program is program of social inclusion for ethnic minorities and children from families with difficulties, especially economic problems.   The aim of our activities is to make this two group interact with other part of society, in this case represented by children from different ngo or school. By  the football we want to show them that our nationality, skin color or economic status do not matter, that as well on the football pitch as well in world out of stadium we all are equal. We want to teach them that in football, as well in our life, there is no space for discrimination and intolerance – it is place for respect, fairplay, cooperation, positive emotions, where the most important fact is how you play, not who you are. By the art activities we want to provide children with basic knowledge about discrimination and stereotypes. Art gallery will present Braga society our work and will be another tool to spread antidiscrimination message and its impact would be at least viewers´ reflection about their tolerance and point of view on other cultures.
